The Global Pathogens Laboratory conducts national and international emerging infectious disease research and training. While research activities are often in international settings, the laboratory's physical home is the University of Florida's Emerging Pathogens Institute. GPL's academic home is the Department of Environmental and Global Health at the University of Florida's College of Public Health and Health Professions.

Research collaborators meet in China

December 2012 - Dr. Gray and Dr. Liang plan research collaborations with Dr. Cao’s research team in China. Dr. Cao (photo center) directs the Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences in Beijing.

July 23 - Aug 23, 2012 - Drs. Anna Machablishvili and Lela Urushadze from the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health in Tbilisi, Georgia receive laboratory training for a GPL/NCDC collaborative surveillance study of severe acute respiratory infections in Georgia

DoD and DoS Welcome 2011 Certificate Students
May 13, 2011 - Mark M. Fukuda, MD, MPH and Elizabeth Sharpe, PhD visit the Global Pathogens Laboratory to welcome Certificate students. Dr. Fukuda (Colonel, Medical Corps, US Army) is the Malaria Program Director and Assistant Chief of the Division of GEIS Operations Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center. Dr. Sharpe is an AAAS Diplomacy Fellow, working at the Department of State, Bureau of International Security & Nonproliferation.
NIAID trainees learn at GPL
February 4, 2011 - NIAID influenza laboratory scholars, Dr. Myagmarsukh Yondon (Mongolia), Dr. Sorin Rapuntean (Romania), and Dr. Lela Urushadze (Georgia) spent a month at the Global Pathogens Laboratory for influenza laboratory training. Certificates and letters were presented by Dr. Gary Heil at the completion of their training.
Dr. Andrea Mikolon visits UF

January 22, 2011 - Dr. Andrea Mikolon, DVM, PhD (3rd from left) gives a seminar to members of the Global Pathogens Team. Dr. Mikolon, a CDC employee in the influenza division, leads a 30-person zoonotic disease research and public health team at the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Global Pathogens Laboratory is collaborating with her group in research and training.

Jan 17-18, 2011 - D. Tserennorov, PhD (Deputy Director for Research and Foreign Relations) and D. Otgonbaatar, PhD (General Director) of the National Center for Infectious Diseases with Natural Foci in Ulaabaatar, Mongolia visit the University of Florida’s Emerging Pathogens Institute to explore new research collaborations.
